The GPS on the Jeep

The Defendant was investigated by the FBI and a local task force on suspicion of drug trafficking. The government obtained a search warrant authorizing installation of a GPS tracking device on a vehicle registered to the Defendant's wife within ten days in the District of Columbia. The GPS device tracked the vehicle's movements every ten seconds for 28 days. The resulting data was used to show the Defendant traveling to locations associated with drug transactions and a stash house where cocaine and cash were found. Officers executed a separate search of a stash house that GPS records indicated the Defendant had visited; they found cocaine and a large sum of cash.
